Is your personal trainer about to go union?

Is the push to “go union” coming to your gym or fitness center? Fitness workers are an intermediate class of worker. They are skilled but their pay is not that great and they rarely get benefits. At a gym chain that is hoping to be the largest in the world the gym workers are attempting to change all that by forming a union.

They want more flexibility about taking on private clients outside their gym work. They want coverage for injuries they incur while doing their gym work, and they want benefits and higher pay. This particular story is about a gym chain in Canada. But could these demands soon be coming to gym chains here in the United States. And what would that mean for membership pricing in the highly competitive market of fitness location companies?
