Tests and Screenings
Pap Smear Laboratory Test
The Pap test, also called a Pap smear, checks for changes in the cells of your cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus (womb) that opens into the vagina (birth canal). The Pap test can tell if you have an infection, abnormal (unhealthy) cervical cells, or cervical cancer. The Pap smear is done as part of a gynecological exam.
The Pap smear can detect cancerous or precancerous conditions of the cervix. Most invasive cancers of the cervix can be detected early if women have Pap tests and pelvic examinations.
Other Gynecology Tests Performed By Dr. Margie Corney:
Complete Blood Test (CBC)
The complete blood count or CBC test is used as a broad screening test to check for such disorders as anemia, infection, and many other diseases. It is actually a panel of tests that examines different parts of the blood. Read more on CBC Tests.
Hemoglobin Lab Test
The hemoglobin test is normally ordered as a part of the complete blood count (CBC) , which is ordered for many different reasons, including for a general health screen. The test is also repeated in patients who have ongoing bleeding problems or chronic anemias or polycythemia.
Urinalysis Lab Test
Urinalysis is one of the many laboratory tests available at Dr. Corney’s medical office. The urinalysis is used as a screening and/or diagnostic tool because it can help detect substances or cellular material in the urine associated with different metabolic and kidney disorders.

Trichomonas Vaginalis Lab Test (Wet Prep)
The test is used to diagnose an infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. In women, small red sores may be visible on the walls of the vagina or cervix during a pelvic exam. The secretions from the vagina or urethra that are collected on a swab can be examined under a microscope (called a wet prep), cultured, or tested with molecular assays to detect the presence of the parasite.
Pelvic & Abdoniminal Ultrasound
Ultrasound sonography is one of the diagnostic tools Dr. Margie Corney offers. Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays).
Pregnancy Lab Test
Qualitative hCG testing detects the presence of hCG and is routinely used to confirm pregnancy. Quantitative hCG testing, often called beta hCG, measures the amount of hCG present in the blood. It may be ordered to help diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, to help diagnose and monitor a pregnancy that may be failing, and/or to monitor a woman after a miscarriage.
Annual Gynecological Examination
Dr. Margie offers annual gynecological exams in a friendly professional environment. The exams include a pelvic exam, breast exam and taking sample cells from the cervix. The annual gynecological exam is the key to early detection and prevention of STDs, cervical cancer and other severe illnesses that present obstacles to sexual well being.
